SCAPEGOAT HILL BAPTIST CHURCH – SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER
Dear Friends,
As I was thinking of starting to write this, my thoughts were around what a soggy summer we have had. However, I have just seen a news flash ‘Surge of African plumes to trigger scorching heatwave until October’. Well that will be different, the swampy bits of my garden may actually dry out. As good Brits we are always going to complain about something.
What unprecedented days we live in. Across the world, in every continent there are indeed wars and rumours of wars. We have been treated to the disruption of ‘Just Stop Oil’ at lots of sporting events, disruption of rail strikes, NHS brought to it’s knees by striking doctors and nurses and waiting lists for treatment getting interminably longer. Weather disturbances have left the UK damp thus far, but across Europe, North Africa, America, Canada, parts of Asia fires have decimated homes, communities, nature and wildlife, industries and commerce.
During Covid, we discovered a whole world of other worship from across the world via YouTube. One group from a church in Sydney, Australia, called City Alight have written some great songs. One of my favourites is Ancient of Days
Though the nations rage, kingdoms rise and fall
There is still one King reigning over all
So I will not fear for this truth remains
That my God is, the Ancient of Days
Though the dread of night overwhelms my soul
He is here with me, I am not alone
O His love is sure, and He knows my name
For my God is, the Ancient of Days
None above Him, none before Him
All of time in His hands
For His throne it shall remain and ever stand
All the power, all the glory
I will trust in His name
For my God is, the Ancient of Days
Though I may not see what the future brings
I will watch and wait for the Saviour King
Then my joy complete, standing face to face
In the presence of the Ancient of Days None above Him, none before Him
All of time in His hands
For His throne it shall remain and ever stand
All the power, all the glory
I will trust in His name
For my God is, the Ancient of Days
For my God is, the Ancient of Days
This is such a wonderful truth in these uncertain days. He changes not, no matter what is going on around us circumstantially. He is the anchor of our faith and this is our spiritual reality. He is our security, the answer to our fears and anxieties. Our God is the Ancient of Days.
As we move into September, we thank God so much for our friends preparing for Baptism on the 17th. There will be a faith lunch afterwards, the church is providing the sandwiches so if you would like to bring cakes or desserts that would be great. May God bless you richly, Liz
