SCAPEGOAT HILL BAPTIST CHURCH – NOVEMBER 2024 NEWSLETTER

Dear Friends,

We were reminiscing the other day about the autumn nature tables

we used to have in our Junior school days. It was a lovely time spent

collecting beech nuts, acorns, bright red leaves and anything else of

interest that we could find to add variety to the display. I’m not sure

whether children still do this, I hope they do.  There does seem to be

more interest among young people about the natural world, and how

we need to be taking more care of things before it is too late. This

time of year is particularly beautiful with all the different coloured

leaves, even if they do make a bit of a mess on the pavement when

they drop !

It’s amazing how such little events can bring back strong memories

from childhood. Autumn seems to be the time that I remember best,

not just with the nature table but other activities, such as collecting

wood for the bonfire and choosing which box of fireworks to buy.

There were also the ‘Sale of Work’ events at local chapels, with lots

of stalls to look for Christmas gifts, helping to raise funds for the

respective churches, while avoiding trailing round shops looking for

appropriate presents.

It can be nice to look back and remember, but we also need to look

to the future and where we will spend eternity. It’s a decision we

need to make now, not something to be put off till later. Jesus, our

Saviour came down to earth and gave his life for us, to restore the

broken connection between God and humankind. We were created

to be God’s children, but we need to accept his offer of grace and

forgiveness in order to take our place in the eternal kingdom.

Don’t leave it too late !!

God bless you all.
